EPMA (Cameca-SX-100) Laboratory is operational in GSI at four places which provides supports
to different research projects and mineral investigation programmes of GSI and outside agencies / national institutes.
Standard Operating Procedure
Capabilities:
- High Precision and accurate quantitative multi element analysis (major & trace elements from B to U) of minerals &
ores (silicates, Carbonates, oxides and sulphides) including high quality imaging at high spatial resolution
- Determination of PGE and REE bearing minerals
- Chemical dating based on Th-U-Pb in appropriate minerals like monazite, xenotime
- CHIEM dating of monazite is also performed on commercial basis
- Zoning and diffusion mapping (X-Ray mapping)
- Also applicable in experimental petrology, meteorite, environmental and metallurgy & ceramics studies
