GSI has been designated as the Nodal Agency for organising the IGC.
GSI has been participating in various promotional activities and outreach programs in national and international seminars/ conferences :
a.Participation in 35th IGC held at Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC), Cape Town, South Africa in August 2016 through paper presentations, symposiums, business meets and exhibitions. Coffee table book on Geotourism Hot spots of Indian Subcontinent were widely circulated among foreign delegates for publicity.
b.International Workshop with co-host neighbouring countries to chalk out a common roadmap for 36th IGC held on 29th to 30th March 2016 at New Delhi.
c. Nine Regional Brainstorming Sessions of 36th IGC(An Unique Opportunity for Advancement in Geosciences)conducted across the country (Kolkata, Hyderabad, Nagpur, Lucknow, Shillong, Jaipur, Mangalore, Trivandrum and Goa) on various geoscientific realms with an objective to develop scientific programmes, field excursions, collaborative projects in synergy with different organizations, institutions and academicians.

GSI is in the process of developing geological field trips from different parts of India, showcasing the geological diversity and culture in this international event. Recently, the 3rd Field Trip Sub-Committee (FTC) workshop of 36th IGC was organised by GSI at CHQ, Kolkata on 20.12.2017.

GSI is also playing a major role in bringing out geoscientific publications and other associated Legacy activities of 36th IGC. 2nd Legacy Committee (LC) meeting of 36th IGC was conducted at CHQ, GSI, Kolkata on 10.01.2018

As a part of science programme activity of 36th IGC, recently two Brain Storming Sessions (BSS) were organised by GSI in association with MoES at Trivandrum and Goa. Furthermore, GSI continuously providing technical inputs for preparation of material for 1st Circular of 36th IGC, 36th IGC website designing, RFP for selection of PCO for organising 36th IGC etc.
